WATERLOO - Marlys Jane Verbeck, 81, of Waterloo, died Friday, Sept. 24, at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 12, 1928, in Lamont, daughter of Amos and Florence Short Flaucher. She married Donald J. Verbeck Oct. 3, 1949, in Waterloo.

She graduated from Hazleton High School in 1947 and attended Oelwein Secretarial School. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church, a trustee of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a member of the Catholic Daughters. She belonged to Waterloo Mothers Chorus.

Survived by: her husband; five sons, Lawrence Verbeck of Waterloo, Alan Verbeck of Anoka, Minn., Norman (Cindy) Verbeck of Waterloo, Leonard Verbeck of Evansdale and Matthew (Lisa) Verbeck of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Lorraine (Mike) Rosteck of Janesville, and Donna Beard and Marlene Wingett, both of Des Moines; nine grandchildren, Ryan (Casey) Verbeck, Adam (Candi) Verbeck, Sara Verbeck, Stephanie Beard, Brett (Jodi) Beard, Brandon Beard, Jeremiah (April) Wingett, Zachary Verbeck and Jacob Verbeck; seven great-grandchildren, Caleb, Ethan, Josie, Lindsey, Spencer, Prycely and Jace; two sisters, Norma Bird of Waterloo and Velma (Jim) Falck of Oelwein; and a brother, Jack (Shelby) Flaucher of Birmingham, Ala.

Preceded in death by: a son, Andrew Verbeck.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. today, with a 5 p.m. vigil service at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials: may be directed to Habitat for Humanity.
