Ada B. Kane (1923-2009)

WATERLOO — Ada Bernice Kane, 85, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Feb. 7, at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center, La Porte City, of cancer.

She was born May 5, 1923, in Black Hawk County, daughter of August and Hattie Secor Mathes. She married LeRoy Thomas Kane on Jan. 16, 1946, in Waterloo. He died Aug. 9, 1967. Mrs. Kane was a graduate of Denver High School, Denver, and was employed as a mail sorter at the Waterloo Post Office until her retirement.

Survived by: a son, Russell of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Diana (Richard) Spence of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Kim (Heather) Spence, Jenny Spence, Nick (Jenn) Kane, Katrina (Tom) Carstens, Aaron Kane; and two great-grandchildren, Sofie Kane and Sebastian Kane.
Preceded in death by: her parents; three brothers, Lloyd, Phillip and Hugh Mathes; and five sisters, Veda Berend, Bessie Wade, Grace Neelans, June Parsley and Florence Rechtfertig.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street. Visitation also an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
