WATERLOO - Edward Francis Steiner, 82, of Waterloo, died Monday, Aug. 30, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born July 24, 1928, in Chelsea, son of Joseph and Emily Vales Steiner. He married Jeanette Sinders Sept. 15, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo.

He graduated from Chelsea High School and received a bachelor's degree in 1950 from Loras College in Dubuque. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War from 1951-52, serving with the 73rd Heavy Tank Batallion. He was employed with Iowa State Employment Service from 1952-66 as a veterans employment representative, then area manager of the Storm Lake, Dubuque and Des Moines offices. He was employed with Chamberlain Manufacturing Co. of Waterloo and Albia, with Broadlawns Medical Center of Des Moines and with Schoitz/Covenant Medical Center in personnel administration for 20 years, 1973-93. He was a former member of Disabled American Veterans, Kiwanis, International Association of Personnel in Employment Security and Iowa Hospital Personnel Management Association.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Dr. Gregory (Monica) Steiner of Allen, Texas; a daughter, Deanne (Gary) Gute of Traer; and four grandchildren, Stefanie, Megan, Alexander and Tessa Steiner of Allen, Texas.

Memorial services: will be announced at a later date, with inurnment in Waterloo Cemetery. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street is assisting the family.

Memorials: may be directed to the family or the Cedar Bend Humane Society.
