Is Hurt While Leaving Train

Clarence Burrows of Vinton Injured at La Porte City.

Jumped from Car and Struck Head on Tie.

LaPorte City, May 8. -- (Special.) -- Last night as the northbound passenger on the Rock Island was approaching the station, Clarence Burrows, who boarded the train at Vinton to come to this city to visit his wife, jumped from the moving train between the elevators and fell, striking his head upon the end of a tie. He was rendered unconscious, in which condition he remained all night and today he is able, only when aroused, to answer questions put to him. The physicians who were called to attend the injured man found three severe gashes in the scalp and one on the face, while the right arm was badly injured. One cut in the head was two and one-half inches in length, another was one and one-half inches in length and the one in the face was one and one-half inches in length. Several stitches were necessary to close these gaping wounds. The man was picked up and taken to the home of his father-in-law, where he was coming to visit, his wife having preceded him. The patient is unable to use his right arm today and is lying in a comatose condition. The physicians are not yet able to state with definiteness how serious the injuries may prove to be. He will probably be confined to his bed, however, for several days.
