FRANKS, SHAPPELL, MORSE, HARE, WILD

CEDAR FALLS - John E. Franks, 85, of Cedar Falls, died at home Sunday, Aug. 15, of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Colesburg, son of Mikael and Margaret Shappell Franks. He married Violet Morse Oct. 26, 1946, in Fayette. She died July 31, 2008.

Mr. Franks was a route driver for City Laundry in Oelwein and Highland Potato Chip Co. Later he was employed in the water and gas department at Cedar Falls Utilities, retiring in 1991, after 22 years of service.

Survived by: two sons, Eddie of Woodward and Mark (Kerri) of Cedar Falls; a son-in-law, John Wild of Waverly; five grandchildren, Tony Wild, Cameron Franks, Jodie Franks, Brandon Lewis and Christopher Lewis; two great-grandchildren, Piper Wild and Apollo Wild; two brothers, Vernon (Dorothy) of Wyoming and Chester (Darlene) Franks of Hawkeye; a sister, Margaret Hare of Downers Grove, Ill.; and two sisters-in-law, Burnice Franks of Lisbon and Ester Morse of Oelwein.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a daughter, Virginia Wild; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles and Donald and Mary Franks; and a brother-in-law, Marty Hare.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Cedar Falls Church of Christ, with burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery, rural Hazleton. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Northeast Iowa Christian Service Camp, Bristow.
