LA PORTE CITY - Helen A. Hoppe, 85, of La Porte City, died Friday, Aug. 13, at La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born Aug. 22, 1924, in La Porte City, daughter of M.C. "Jack" and Theresa Berniece Oehler Jacobs. She married Ralph Hoppe June 9, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Porte City. He died Oct. 8, 1987.

Mrs. Hoppe attended grade school in La Porte City and graduated from Our Lady of Victory Academy, Waterloo. She served as the assistant librarian at the Hawkins Memorial Public Library, La Porte City, for 24 years, retiring May 1, 2004, at the age of 79. Prior to that, she also worked for Robertson Law Office in La Porte City.

Survived by: a daughter, Kathleen (Rod) Allers of Camdenton, Mo.; a son, Christopher of Miami; three grandchildren, Father Rod Allers of Marion, Rhonda Allers of Waterloo and Stacy Allers of Oelwein; a sister-in law, Betty Hoppe of La Porte City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: her parents; and three sisters, Marian (Frank) Campbell, Margaret (Norman) Maas and Dorothy (William) Ernster.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the church, with a 6:30 p.m. parish Scripture service. Visitation also an hour before services Monday at the church. La Porte City Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

Helen was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her life was guided by her strong faith and her deep love for her children and grandchildren.
