WATERLOO — The Rev. Elder Joseph D. Curry Jr., 90, of Waterloo, died Monday, Aug. 9, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 16, 1919, in Waterloo, son of Joseph D. Sr. and Addie Freeman Curry. He married Louise Longstreet in 1940 in Waterloo; they later divorced. He married Mary Jane Hickey on March 24, 1952, in Spring Valley, Minn. She died in 1997. He married Roberta Robinson in 1997 in Waterloo; they later divorced.

He was a butcher for Rath Packing Co. for 45 years, retiring in 1981. He received diplomas from Church of Christ, Seventh-day Adventist, Church of God in Christ and Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. He was district superintendent for Church of God in Christ, held Bible studies at Jesse Cosby Center and was a reading mentor at Dr. Walter Cunningham School of Excellence. He was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, served as interim pastor at Peace Baptist Church and Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and was co-pastor at Rose Hill Church of God in Christ. He was an associate minister at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church for many years.

Survived by: five sons, Gary (Beverly) of Yuma, Ariz., Lawrence Bryant of Cedar Rapids, Oliver (JoAnne) Bryant of Waterloo, Charles of Phoenix and Joel of Colorado; three daughters, Lynette McIntosh-Curry, JoAnn (Brian) Henry and Sheila (Juan) Hollingsworth, all of Waterloo; a brother, Roosevelt Taylor of Waterloo; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: his wife, Mary Jane; two sons, Joseph Curry Jr. and Michael Curry; a daughter, Billie Jo McCants; three brothers, Charles, Donald and James; and four sisters, Mattie Alice Curry, Ella Morehead, Geneva Lomas and Addie Flowers.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church, with a 7 p.m. celebration of life service. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to the family at 627 Beech St., where they will receive friends.
