CEDAR FALLS - Dorothy J. Smith, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Martin Health Care Center of natural causes.

She was born April 30, 1920, in Waterloo, daughter of Ralph and Velma E. Albert Taffner. She married Gordon B. Smith on June 30, 1944, in Chicago. He died Dec. 7, 1974.

She graduated from Waterloo West High School and attended beauty school. She was an instructor at Pitze's Beauty School for 10 years, retiring in 1969. She served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-44. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Elkets, Newcomers of Florida and the National Hairdressers Association.

Survived by: a son, Rex P. (Randi) Smith of Wausau, Wis.; a daughter, Aline J. "A.J." (Fritz) Tegtmeier of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Katie (Steve Pfeiffer) Smith and Billy (Danielle Spencil) Smith, all of Wausau, Steve Tegtmeier of Tarzana, Calif., James (Lee Ann) Tegtmeier of Bethesda, Md., and Kim (Ben) Ortega of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; and 11 great-grandchildren, Britney and Brandon Woolever, Alexia Pfeiffer, Marley Belle Smith and Jarek Czerwinski, all of Wausau, Christian and Julian Tegtmeier of Bethesda and Bella, John, Luke and Sarah Ortega of Rancho Santa Margarita.

Preceded in death by: a sister, Helen Tomlinson.

Services: 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and for an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
