STRAWBERRY POINT - Merle Arthur Brand Jr., 68, of Strawberry Point, died Thursday, July 29, at Strawberry Point Lutheran Home.

He was born June 17, 1942, in Waterloo, son of Merle Sr. and Doris Jean (Nissen) Brand. He married Carolyn Kinderman; they later divorced.

He graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1960 and earned a bachelor's degree in business and accounting from Iowa State University. He received an MBA in finance from the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Mr. Brand enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, attained the rank of captain and was honorably discharged in 1971. He worked for Perlmeter Investments in Omaha until 1990. He held positions in accounting and finance until retirement.

Survived by: his mother; and two sisters, Sandra (Roger) Nunemaker of Waterloo and Linda (Don) Freet of Gilbertville.

Preceded in death by: his father.

Graveside Services: 2:30 p.m. today at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, with military rites. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is in charge of arrangements.
