WATERLOO - Harriett L. Martin, 97, of Lansing, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 28, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 27, 1912, in Schaefer, N.D., daughter of Will H. and Sallie Christensen Clarke. She married Harold L. Martin Oct. 22, 1938, in Waterloo. He died May 1984.

She graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1932, Gates Business College and Comptometer School. She worked in the office at John Deere, Black Hawk County Assessor's Office and retired as secretary in the guidance and attendance office at Edison School after 14 years in 1974. She and her husband moved to Branson in 1974. She was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. She taught Sunday school, sang in choir and was past president of the Women's Group (Seekers).

Survived by: a son, Joe (Teri) Martin of Waterloo; a daughter, Sallie Back of Lansing; a daughter-in-law, Betty Martin of Lansing; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a son, John Martin; a sister, Becky Hanna; a great-granddaughter, Hailey Martin; and a son-in-law, Bob Back.

Services: 2:30 p.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation for an hour before services Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to the family or to Immanuel Presbyterian Church Women's Group (Seekers).
