WATERLOO - Frederick J. Proctor, 83, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center following a short illness.

He was born April 25, 1926, in Omaha, Neb., son of Wesley and Mary Etta McGinnis Proctor. He married Mary Jane Tabor Aug. 13, 1950, in Maquoketa.

He attended Grinnell College for two years, graduated from University of Iowa with a B.S. degree in 1951 and from the School of Physical Therapy in 1952. He was a physical therapist at University of Iowa, head of physical therapy at Schoitz Memorial Hospital and opened Waterloo Physical Therapy Clinic in 1969. He retired in 1992. Mr. Proctor served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. from 1945-47. He was a volunteer for the Red Cross for 10 years.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Steven (Jan) of Pocatello, Idaho and John (Pilar) of Doha, Qatar; two daughters, Kathryn Jensen of Bend, Ore., and Susan (Peter Willetts) Proctor of San Francisco; four grandchildren, Nathan, Kelsey, Allan and Paola Proctor; and a brother, Gail (Pat) of Dyersville.

Preceded in death by: an infant daughter, Kimberly; and two brothers.

Memorial services: 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with inurnment in Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials: may be directed to First United Methodist Church or Hawkeye Chapter of American Red Cross.
