WATERLOO - Howard Cohrt, 73, of St. Peter, Minn., formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, July 16, at Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.

He was born June 24, 1937, in Waterloo, son of Leo Cohrt and Clarice Cohrt Stanley. He married Altamira Jan. 4, 1968, in Toronto, Canada.

He attended high school in Waterloo. Mr. Cohrt received a bachelor's degree from Stanford University in 1959, and M.A.'s from Columbia University (Union Theology Seminary) and the Universities of Marquette and Minnesota. He taught religion, Latin and history at private boarding schools. He worked at the Gustavus Adolphus College Library from 1979-2002.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Geoff and Fred; a brother, Larry; and a sister, Connie.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Peter. Public visitation from 9:30 a.m. until services Monday at the church. Burial 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Waterloo Cemetery.

He was a devoted husband, father, son and brother. He loved being surrounded by books, in an environment of learning and questioning, and facilitating students and faculties search for knowledge through all forms of research material. Howard lived with Parkinson's Disease for over 20 years, most of those years enjoying his regular work and personal life.
