WATERLOO — Earl A. "Chris" Christiansen, 80, of Waterloo, died Sunday, July 4, at Allen Hospital.

He was born April 15, 1930, in Waterloo, son of Anton and Wilhelmina A. "Minnie" Nielsen Christiansen. He married Bette Ponto Dec. 29, 1952, in San Diego.

Mr. Christiansen was employed with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 25 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1987. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Survived by: his wife; three sons, Scott (Carol) of Dallas, Todd (Doreen Corley) of Waterloo and Craig (Julie) of Roseville, Minn.; a daughter, Paige (Larry) McCroan of Gaston, S.C.; six grandchildren, Joshua (Angie) Finn, Tiffany Gibbs, Sara (Sam) Teem, Jimmy (Crystal Elam) Gibbs II, and Abby and Haley Christiansen; and seven great-grandchildren, Hannah, Samantha, Cody, Alex, Noah, Robby and Kendall.

Preceded in death by: two sons, Peter on July 2, 1996, and Mark on Sept. 22, 2009.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full graveside military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to St. Edward's Catholic Church.

Earl cherished his grandchildren, they were the light of his life. He was active as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, a volunteer Care Van driver for Covenant Medical Center and Meals on Wheels. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, Cubs fan and Iowa fan — How 'Bout Them Hawks!
