WATERLOO — Bernice R. Phillips, 93, of Waterloo, died Sunday, July 4, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

She was born Oct. 13, 1916, in Cresco, daughter of Frank and Mary Metcalf Vogel. She married Alfred Phillips Feb. 24, 1936, in Jesup. He died July 1, 1984.

Mrs. Phillips graduated from Jesup High School. She worked as a clerk at Sears and Roebuck, and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a long-time volunteer at the Covenant gift shop.

Survived by: a daughter, Janice Hansen of Golden, Colo.; a son, Robert (Linda) of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Susan Gibson, Nancy (Greg) Wolf, Lynne (Trevis) Barnwell, Barry (Jennifer) Phillips and Brian (Cathee) Hansen; 13 great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Adeline Vogel, Mary Vogel and Betty Vogel.

Preceded in death by: her parents; three brothers, Francis, William and Robert Vogel; a son-in-law, Wayne Hansen; and a daughter-in-law, Jane Phillips.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary and a 7 p.m. parish vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
