Robert Charles Smith was born in Waterloo, Iowa on May 24, 1919, the son of Charles Tony and Minnie (Bahe). He passed away on May 1, 2010 at his home in Pflugerville, Texas.

He attended Iowa State University in Ames, graduating in 1943 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1944-1946. He spent six years in Saudi Arabia from 1947-1953 on an engineering project for the U.S. He was in the Department of Defense at Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, N.J. from 1960-1980. In 1980, the family moved to Sumner, Texas where Robert had a beef cattle ranch. He thoroughly enjoyed tending his 80-acre ranch until his health no longer allowed, then moved to Round Rock, Texas.

Robert and Mary Ellen Reid were married May 30, 1958, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen and their three children: Charles Smith of Round Rock, Texas; Susan Browne and husband, Bill of Round Rock, Texas; and Robert Smith Jr. and wife, Regina of Denton, Texas; four grandchildren.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents and sisters; Claire Wood and Dorothy McMurry. A Memorial Service will be held in Sumner, Texas. Interment will be held at DFW National Cemetery in Arlington, Texas.
