WATERLOO — Howard P. Kimpston, 88, of Waterloo, died Thursday, June 24, at Rosewood Estate of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 27, 1921, in Fayette, son of Francis R. and Pearl S. Proctor Kimpston. He married Martha Holmes on June 12, 1952, in Hudson. She died Dec. 5, 2007.

Mr. Kimpston graduated from West Union High School in 1939. He worked at the Naval Munitions Armory, Hastings, Neb., during World War II; drove a milk truck and worked at a creamery for many years; and later worked at Viking Pump for 11 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of South Waterloo Church of the Brethren.

Survived by: a son, Bill (Paula) of Hudson; two daughters, Martha (Phil) Meyer of Pleasant Hill and Sue (Tom Burkgren) Kimpston of Perry; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard (Ann) of Edina, Minn., and Alden (Judy) of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by: three sisters, Mary Brockway, Leona Grimm and Lois Heath; and a brother, Francis W.

Memorial services: 3 p.m. Sunday at South Waterloo Church of the Brethren, with burial at a later date in Hudson Cemetery. His body was donated to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. The family will greet friends following the service at the church.
