WATERLOO - Gerald "Jerry" Tappan, 76, of Waterloo, died at his home Friday, June 11, of cancer.

He was born Feb. 25, 1934, in Beaver Dam, Ky., son of Estill Park and Gertha Mae Evans Tappan. He married Joan Adams June 30, 1951, in Michigan. She died Jan. 10, 2003.

Mr. Tappan worked at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works as a tool and gauge designer, retiring in 1997. He was a member of Martin Lodge 624, Moose Lodge 328 and AMVETS Post 31.

Survived by: two sons, Michael of Idaho and Kevin of Michigan; three daughters, Pat (Max) Szobonya of Michigan, Lori (Janon) Palmer of Washburn and Susan Carter of Independence; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Byron (Alice) of Michigan; a sister, Elaine (Bob) Snyder of Michigan; his mother-in-law, Shirley Malis of Independence; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a son, Rusty; a brother, Royce; his father-in-law, Leo Malis; and a son-in-law, Mike Carter.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation form 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service by Martin Lodge 624. Visitation also an hour before services Tuesday at the chapel.

Jerry will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
