WATERLOO — James L. Quinn Sr., 74, of Waterloo, died Monday, June 7, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born May 26, 1936, in Hazelhurst, Miss., son of Charles Edward and Shallie Mae Rhodes Quinn.

Mr. Quinn was a custodian for many years at the Black Hawk County Courthouse and was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

Survived by: seven sons, Leon Davis, Blake Jones, Danny Quinn and Dennis Quinn, all of Waterloo, James Quinn Jr. of Postville, Richard Lewis of Marshalltown and Patrick Lewis of Boise, Idaho; 12 daughters, Anna Quinn, MiOsha Quinn and Hattie Denton, all of Waterloo, Elaine Scott, Rozetta Greene, Jenny Usher and Gwen Usher, all of Rosedale, Miss., Doll (Gussie) Crank of Rochester, N.Y., Ola Coleman of Nantucket, Mass., Katrina Williams, Schnique Williams and Celita Williams, also of Waterloo; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, John Ed (Denise) Rhodes of Waterloo, Charles W. (Lue) Johnson of Lambert, Miss., Maurice A. Johnson of Jackson, Miss., and Bernel (Martha) Corley of New Orleans; and eight sisters, Shirley A. Johnson of Waterloo, Shirley J. Johnson of Milwaukee and Nancy Diggs and Gladys Cahill, both of Los Angeles, Mildred Sutton of Philadelphia, Miss., Eva (Richard) Gaines of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Bertha Mickel and Sarah Lawson, both of Marrero, La.

Preceded in death by: seven brothers, Robert L. Rhodes, Eddie D. Johnson, Sammie Johnson, Alfred Corley, Leonard Corley, Samuel Corley and Victor E. Quinn; and three sisters, Ozie Curtis, Etta McClure and Catherine Greer.

Services: 11 a.m. June 19 at Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in Lula Reed Memorial Garden, both in Rosedale. Redmon Funeral Home, Rosedale, is in charge of arrangements in Mississippi. Public visitation from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Greer Funeral Home, Waterloo.
