LA PORTE CITY - Rolland T. Ohrt, 86, of Waterloo, formerly of La Porte City, died Monday, June 7, at home.

He was born Oct. 3, 1923, in La Porte City, son of Theodore R. and Freeda L. Lane Ohrt. He married Frances Kemp on May 8, 1943, in Dubuque.

He worked for the Iowa Highway Commission for 30 years, retiring in 1974. Mr. Ohrt was a World War II Navy veteran.

Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Claudia (Gary) Ohrt of Panama City, Fla., Linda (Jim) Larson of Sedalia, Mo., and Karen (Duane) Morrissey of Waterloo; a son, Randy (Patricia) Ohrt of Fairbank; two daughters-in-law, Evie and Mary Ohrt, both of Waterloo; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine (Arvey) Hydenrick of Deer, Ark., and Judy (Paul) Vega of Long Beach, Calif.; and two brothers, Gerald Ohrt of Oelwein and John (Mary) Davis of Mount Vernon, Mo.

Preceded in death by: two sons, Ron and Del Ohrt; three sisters, Madline Black, Ada Skolnick and an infant sister; and three brothers, Alvin and Merlin Ohrt, and an infant brother.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, with burial in Engeldow Cemetery, rural Mount Auburn, with full military honors by La Porte City San Diego American Legion Post 207 and V.F.W. Normandy Post 3983. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and for an hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
