CEDAR FALLS - Elizabeth Lillian Pitt McCracken, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, June 4, at Elizabeth E. Martin Health Center of natural causes.

She was born Nov. 29, 1918, in West Bromwich, England, daughter of William and Lillian Pitt. She married William McCracken Sept. 29, 1945, in Barnwell, England. They returned to the U.S. on the Queen Mary. He preceded her in death.

She served in the British Army during World War II as a sergeant. She taught pre-school for about 20 years and volunteered with the Red Cross for more than 30 years. She was a member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church and St. Paul's United Methodist Church, both in Waterloo.

Survived by: a son, David (Susan) McCracken of Waterloo; a daughter, Janet (Michael) Miller of Kansas City; a grandson, Shane McCracken; and great-grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew and Angela McCracken, all of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: her husband; and a brother, William Pitt.

Memorial service: 3 p.m. Tuesday at Western Home Communities Chapel, Cedar Falls, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, An Overton Family Service, Waterloo, is assisting the family.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

Elizabeth possessed a servant's spirit and loved animals, especially dogs. She was an avid walker and enjoyed walking everywhere.
