WATERLOO - Mary J. "Gene" Clark Shirley, 91, of Waterloo, died Friday, May 28, at Manor Care Nursing and Rehab Center, Waterloo.

She was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Cork, Ireland, daughter of Eugene H. and Mary O'Dea Clark. She married Charles Oscar Shirley on Dec. 25, 1936, in New Hampton. He preceded her in death.

She attended Pitze's Beauty School in Waterloo. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Survived by: two sons, Charles Shirley of Charlotte and Tim (JoAnn) Shirley of Chanute, Kan.; four daughters, Charlene (Jessie) Gilbreath of Foley, Ala., Linda (Allen) Niedert, Mary Morris and Janet (Craig) McAhren, all of Waterloo; 31 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: her husband; two sons, Eugene and David; a brother, Jack Clark; a sister, Nancy Skinner; and two grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Poyner Township Cemetery. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel is assisting the family.
