Alvin Strubel Dies In East

Black Hawk County Soldier Boy's Service to Country Ends With Supreme Sacrifice.

Private Alvin Strubel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Strubel, 235 Western avenue, died at 7 a. m. today at Dover, N. J., of influenza. Pvt. Strubel was a member of the Third ordinance guard company and was on guard duty at Picatinny arsenal, N. J., when he became ill. A letter received from Pvt. Robert P. Bowman, formerly of Orange township, advises that 125 members of this company are in the infirmary.

Pvt. Strubel was drawn in the Black Hawk county contingent which went to Camp Pike, July 21. From Camp Pike he was transferred to Camp Raritan, N. J., and then to the arsenal. He was 23 years old and until March, 1918, lived in Eagle township with his parents. He attended the township schools and later went to the College of Commerce. Surviving are the parents, brothers, Mark and Paul, and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gill.

His father went to Dover when he received news of his serious condition and will bring the body to Waterloo. It is expected that he will arrive Friday.

Pvt. A. J. Strubel, who died at Picatinny arsenal, N. J., this week, will be buried Sunday morning in the Catholic cemetery at Eagle Center. The funeral procession will leave the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Strubel, 235 Western avenue, at 10 a. m.
