Pvt. Nicholas Reiter, Gilbertville, Killed In Action Sept. 30

Gilbertville, Ia., Nov. 8. -- (Special) -- Mrs. Gerhard Reiter (sic) received notice last evening that her son, Pvt. Nicholas Reiter, 88th division, was killed in action Sept. 30. Pvt. Reiter was called into service in March, 1918. He was 22 years old. Surviving are the mother, a brother, Pvt. Mathias Reiter, Camp Pike, and three sisters, Gilbertville.

Pvt. Nicholas Rieder of Gilbertville, the last Black Hawk county boy reported to have made the supreme sacrifice, was killed in action Sept. 30. He left with a county contingent for Camp Dodge Feb. 22; was transferred to South Carolina, and sailed with the 117 infantry May 10.

No particulars of the manner of his death were given in the official notice received by his mother on Friday last. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Anna Rieder, and five sisters, Mrs. Joe Webber, Mrs. Leonard Bernard, Mrs. Frank Teeter, Gilbertville; Mrs. Fallana Marx, Verona, N. D., and Mrs. Mike Hintz, Iona Lake, Minn.
