WATERLOO - David L. Atzen, 72, of Waterloo, died Friday, April 23, at Allen Hospital.

He was born July 14, 1937, in Cresco, son of Vernon and Margaret Klomp Atzen. He married Nancy Helling on Aug. 3, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Chenoa, Ill.

He graduated from Lime Springs High School.

Survived by: his wife, Nancy of Waterloo; four daughters, Kathryn (Randy Moothart) Pierce of Frederika, Denise Tyler of Grand Prairie, Texas, Zoa Lynn (William) Loper of London and Natasha (Michael) Williams of Mesa, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Verna (Jim) O'Connor of Tehachapi, Calif. and Mary (Jim) Ackerman of Yakima, Wash.

Preceded in death by: a grandson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ascension Lutheran Church, with a 2:30 p.m. burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lime Springs, Iowa. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Ascension Lutheran Church Building Fund or donor's choice.

David enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and sports; he was an avid Hawkeyes and Cubs fan. He was active in his church and the Board of Directors of the Christian Crusaders. Most of all, David loved his family and interacting with his grandchildren. David will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
