WATERLOO - On April 14, 2010, God looked down upon his poor, precious child, Jessie Viola Kannegieter. And in His Mercy, He charged His angels to go quickly, and bring His child to Him. They rushed down to that room where she lay, as her daughter and granddaughter prayed and soothed her brow, for the last time. She opened her eyes, at the very sound of her brother's voice, whom she dearly loved. Now then, as she felt the presence of angels, at that moment, her children saw her slip away, leaving that tired broken body. Those angels ushered her into the Holy Presence of God. He took her, at last, into his loving arms. She awoke, transformed, with a new body, free from the trials of earth; to live forevermore, in her Heavenly home. Her family blessed the Lord, for his loving kindness and mercies, as she left their arms and came into His Everlasting safekeeping.
Jessie Viola Kannegieter was born on June 22, 1928, to Roy and Clara Beasley (Marquis), of Waterloo. She especially loved her Grandparents, Charles and Clara Marvitz, of Sherwood Park in Waterloo. She and her brother, Charles Welcher, spent many happy hours in the woodlands along the Cedar River. They had a pony, that she loved to ride and she told how she loved her Grandma's cooking. She had a sweet step Father, Kenneth Marquis, who loved her like his own. When he went into the Navy, in WWII, she and her Mother wrote many loving letters of encouragement to him. Jessie told how she always held her little brother's hand and cared so much for him. Jessie has a little sister, Sonja (Duckworth), whom she loved, and always kept her close to her heart.
Jessie married the love of her life, Rev. Marvin Kannegieter, on June 21, 1951. They had many wonderful years with their two daughters, Judy (Burr) of Denver, Ia. and Mary (Boggs) of Carrollton, Ga. Those daughters were blessed and honored, to have such loving parents. Marvin and Jessie, were members of the Open Bible Church in Waterloo, where Jessie's family, were some of the first members. Marvin and Jessie co-pastored Walnut St. Calvary, in Waterloo, in the 1970's and moved to Ocala, Florida, with their daughter, Mary, where they ministered for 25 years. Jessie and Mary ministered by playing the organ and singing. Jessie was blessed by the ability to quote many chapters of the Bible from memory. They moved back to Waterloo, eight years ago, and enjoyed renewing friendships. They attended Walnut Ridge Baptist and enjoyed fellowship with new friends, as well.
They were blessed with seven grandchildren: Jessica Burr, Elisabeth Cobb, Becca Still, Joey, Emily, and Angel Boggs, and Christy Boggs Kingkade; and five great grandchildren: Jackson and Audrey Cobb, Madison, Christian, and Brooklyn Kingkade. She has four sisters-in-laws, Pearl Mitchell, Elsie Kannegieter, Angeline Palmer, Maxine Welcher and two brother-in -laws, Kenny Palmer and Terry Duckworth, all of whom she loved, as well as, eight nephews and seven nieces. Jessie was reunited with her husband, who celebrated his heavenly birthday on July 3, 2007. Jessie was cared for by her daughter, Judy, for a time and then lived for three years at Bartels Retirement Community Center, in Waverly, where she had many loving caregivers.
We will remember Jessie, with family and friends, with a time of visitation on Friday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and a memorial service on Saturday, April 24th, at 2 p.m. at Kearns, Schumacher Chapel, on Kimball Ave, Waterloo. Rev. David Moore, of Walnut Ridge Baptist, is officiating. Internment at Gardens of Memory and a time of fellowship and luncheon, afterwards, at the Chapel.
