MAXINE B. STRATTON, 60, of Hudson, Iowa died Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa from complications of lung cancer.

Maxine was born October 13, 1944 in Story County, Iowa the daughter of Haaken & Elizabeth (Skeers) Horness. She married Gary J. Stratton June 12, 1965 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City, Iowa.

Maxine attended Milford Township School and graduated from Nevada High School in 1962. In 1981, she received certification as an EMT-A and was one of the first two women to join the Hudson Fire Department as a firefighter/EMT. She also served as Ambulance Captain for many years, retiring from the Fire Department in 1998.

After raising a family, she entered Allen College of Nursing in 1992 as a freshman and received a BSN degree in 1997. Maxine worked as an RN at Covenant Medical Center until 2004. She was secretary-treasurer of the Hi Hopes Bowling League, a member of the Hudson Music Makers, and a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hudson.

Survivors include her husband, Gary, of Hudson; two sons, Galen (Teresa) of Williamsburg, Iowa and Garrett (Stephanie) of Topeka, Kansas; one daughter, Karmin of Baltimore, Maryland; five grandchildren, NaTasha Gardner of Marengo, LaShanda Gardner of Williamsburg, Garron Stratton of Williamsburg, Addison and Sydney Stratton of Topeka, Kansas; one great grandson, Dylan Henry of Marengo; two sisters, Helen Uballe of Indianola, Hazel Jessen of Winterset and one brother, Charles (Delores) Horness of New Castle, Delaware.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Kimberly Stratton, and one brother, Virgil Horness.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2005 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church with burial in Hudson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral and for an hour prior to service time at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to the family.
