WATERLOO - Merle R. Moothart, 90, of Waterloo, died Friday, April 9, at Covenant Medical Center following a short illness.

He was born Feb. 4, 1920, in Waterloo, son of Earl F. and Helen M. Boysen Moothart. He married Dolores F. Meisch on Feb. 1, 1943, at St. John's Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Moothart was a 1937 graduate of Waterloo East High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, prior to serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, where he received an accounting degree. He owned and operated an accounting firm in Waterloo for many years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Elks Lodge, the AICPA, and was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Judy (David) Grdina of Naperville, Ill., Annette (Jim) Lyons of Clinton and Margaret (Terry) Wittenberg of Fredericksburg, Texas; three sons, Tim (Mary) of Dubuque, Steve (Mary) Monroe, La., and Peter (Joann) of Owatonna, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Kenneth and Donald.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. parish vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
