WATERLOO — Alvin D. Cameron, 89, of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 4, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 28, 1920, in Waterloo, son of Archie E. and Margaret E. Shepherd Cameron. He married Doris E. Harn on June 18, 1949, in Waterloo.

He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as an airborne engineer. He then was employed at Chamberlain Manufacturing Corp. for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of American Legion Post 30 in Independence for 55 years.

Survived by: his wife, Doris of Waterloo; several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Virginia Hutton of California.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Archie J. and Russell (Betty); a sister, Gertrude (Wendell) Bell; and an infant half sister, Amelia Beston.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and for an hour before services Friday. Full military rites will be conducted by the Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.
