John M. Mistretta, 51, of Altamonte Springs, Fla., died Friday, March 26, of natural causes at Florida Hospital in Altamonte Springs.

He was born April 13, 1958, in Milwaukee, Wis., and is the son of John and Sharon Mistretta. John earned his Eagle Scout Award through the Cedar Falls Boy Scouts. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1976 and went to work for IBM in Dubuque in 1977.

He married Terri (Thill) Krueger on May 30, 1981, at St. Columbkille's Church in Dubuque. He graduated in 1982 from the University of Dubuque with an associate's degree, and went on to earn bachelor's degrees both in business and in aviation management in 1984. He resided in Des Moines from 1984 to 2002, when he moved to Florida. John later married Suzie in October 2008.

John enjoyed spending time with his boys when he could, flying, boating, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Brett Farve, and the Green Bay Packers. He also followed the Florida Gators after he moved to Florida. He was active with his Condo Association Board.

He is survived by his wife, Suzie; two sons, John C. Mistretta of Bondurant and Justin Mistretta of Ankeny, and Justin's fiance, Crystal Van De Casteele; his parents, John and Sharon Mistretta of Marion; a granddaughter, Addilyn of Bondurant; a sister, Jill (Pat) McAvoy of Denver; three nephews, Corey, Kyle and Kurt McAvoy of Denver; and two stepchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Scott in 2007.
