WATERLOO — Esther A. Owen, 88, of Rochester, Minn., formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, March 28, at Maple Manor Nursing Home, Rochester.

She was born Jan. 2, 1922, in Alta Vista, daughter of Frank and Minna Flugge Arndt. She married Gordon "Gordy" Owen on Oct. 19, 1945, in Alta Vista.

Mrs. Owen worked as a waitress at the Maindiner Cafe, New Hampton, and also worked for many years as a waitress-cashier at Electric Park Ballroom in Waterloo. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo. In 2005, she moved to Maple Manor Nursing Home.

Survived by: a son, Daniel J. (Jo) of Rochester; three grandchildren, Stacy Hogle of Raymond, Kristi (Mike) Rinne of Geneva, Ill., and Meredith (Michael) Clark of Rochester; seven great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Matt, Nicole, Samantha, Erin, Karli and Jenna; and a sister, Dorothy Schreiber of Monticello, Minn.

Preceded in death by: her parents, her husband; a daughter, Donna; two brothers, Carl and Leo; and four sisters, Mamie, Hattie, Rose and Verna.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday, April 5, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, with burial at 3 p.m. Monday at Garden of Memories Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Public visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, Rochester, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Esther enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing and entertaining friends and family at her home.
