CEDAR FALLS -- Ernest "Ernie" L. Tollefson, 76, of Hemet, Calif., formerly of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Cedar Falls, died Sunday, May 1, 1999, at St. Bernardine Medical Center, San Bernardino, Calif., of cancer.

He was born Dec. 14, 1922, in Maxwell. He received a degree from Iowa State Teacher's College and was a senior high math teacher in Santa Barbara for 23 years. He also had worked at Rath Packing Co., Waterloo. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was past commander of AMVETS Post 49 of Cedar Falls.

Survived by: his wife, Doris; four sons, Ron of Gig Harbor, Wash., Rich of Colorado Springs, Colo., Stephen of Hemet, Calif., and the Rev. Terry Tollefson of Elgin, Ore.; three stepdaughters, Jackie Heil of Hemet, Phyllis Rockwell of Alta Loma, Calif., and Gwen Palakiko of La Haina, Maui, Hawaii; 20 grandchildren and a great-grandson; two brothers, Louie of Placerville, Calif., and Les of Turlock, Calif.; and two sisters, Alberta Darling of Simi Valley, Calif., and Helen Curtiss of Los Angeles.

Services: were today at McWane Family Funeral Home, Hemet, with private inurnment in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif.
