EVANSDALE — Edwin Charles Altekruse, 89, of Evansdale, died Thursday, March 4, at Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Falls.

He was born Feb. 16, 1921, in Muscatine, son of Samuel and Velma McCleary Altekruse. He married Mary Rada. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Altekruse graduated from Muscatine High School and worked on the family farm in Muscatine. He and his wife owned and operated the Town and Country Motel, Cedar Falls, and a health food store until retirement.

Survived by: a daughter, Nancy Martin of Waterloo; a son, Tad (Vernita) of Anna, Texas; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls. Public visitation Friday at the funeral home from noon to 1 p.m.
