EVANSDALE — Mary Van Nice Loy, 82, was born on Jan. 3, 1928, in Vinton. She was the daughter of Harris C. and Pearl A. Braginton Van Nice. She married Frank Loy on March 10, 1945, and he died June 6, 1969. Mary had retired as a clerk at the Black Hawk County Courthouse in 1993. She died of heart failure on March 1, 2010, while a patient at Allen Hospital, Waterloo.

She is survived by her son, Greg (Kari) Loy of Evansdale; her daughter, Lynda (John) Hart of Waterloo; granddaughter, Lisa (Larry) Klodt, and their daughter, Lynlee of Waterloo; stepgrandchildren, James Hart of Waterloo, Tom (Natalie) Hart of Shell Rock and Erick Baxter and Kelsey Baxter, both of Evansdale; stepgreat-grandchildren, Thomas, Lucas and Ashlyn Hart, all of Shell Rock, and MaKaylee Baxter of Evansdale; brother, James L. Van Nice of Monticello, Ky.; brothers-in-law, Capt. Lloyd L. (Ursula) Loy of Alexandria, Va., and Al Benson of Waterloo; sisters-in-law, Jesse Richter and Jennaven Loy, both of Cedar Falls, and Dolly Papsish of Galena, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Barbara Lyons Benson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice Van Nice, Kenneth and Edith Briden, Ted and Bonnie Loy, Milt and Margaret Loy, Everett and Marge Hilton, Ralph and Arlene Loy, Joe and Vi Heinen, Roy and Bertha Melick, Kenneth Richter, Kenneth Loy and Harry and Ann Fowler.

No services are planned. Inurnment of cremains will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Waterloo, at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, Waterloo, assisted the family.
