Private Otis Whipple Church, previously reported missing in action since Sept. 26, fell in battle, according to the latest advices from the war department. Having heard nothing further from the lad since he was reported missing, the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Church, 217 Ricker street, began an investigation, and appealed to Congressman Burton E. Sweet for aid. The reply to their appeal was word that the identification tag belonging to Private Church had been received from German military authorities with the information that the lad fell in battle.

Private Church enlisted here April 26, 1918, going first to Camp Dodge. Three weeks later he was transferred to Camp Travis, Tex., and he arrived overseas July 1. He was a member of Co. F, 359th infantry and was in active service for several weeks.

He was born in Buchanan county, near Troy Mills, Dec. 23, 1892. He had resided in Waterloo 12 years at the time of his enlistment. Besides the parents he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Pearl Bragow.
