WEST DES MOINES — Gerald W. Reed, 76, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, in Panama City, Fla. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at McLaren’s Chapel, with burial in Resthaven Cemetery, both in West Des Moines.

Gerald was born March 15, 1933, in Waterloo, to Henry and Edith (Wardin) Reed. He was an associate controller for Principal Financial. Gerald was a U.S. Army Reserve veteran. He was a member of the Fellow of the LOMA Institute and FLMI and involved in a breakfast club. Gerald enjoyed stained glass making, woodworking, fishing and he was a big Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Carol Reed of West Des Moines; daughter, Kari (Todd) Heilman of Des Moines; two sons, David (Lisa) Reed of Marion and Scott Reed of Waukee; nine grandchildren, Marty Lawrence, Joshua (Kristy) Heilman, Jared (Laura) Heilman, John (Kim) Heilman, Amber Heilman, Jordan Heilman, Makenna Reed, Cassidy Heilman and Macey Reed; two great-grandchildren, Zackary Heilman and Austin Heilman; brother, Richard (Irene) Reed of West Des Moines; and brother-in-law, Larry (Joan) Rourke of Ottumwa.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
