WATERLOO — The Rev. Wilson O. Rideout, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 11, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born Sept. 23, 1918, to Eskert Rideout and Quentilla Lambert. He married Lessie Mae Craig on Sept. 6, 1956, in Freeport, Ill.

The Rev. Rideout began his ministry in 1959. He founded and built Gomez Chapel AME Church in Rockford, Ill., where he served as pastor for 21 years before being appointed pastor of Payne Memorial AME Church, where he served for 19 years. The Rev Rideout retired after 45 years in the ministry .

Survived by: his wife; four sons, Robert (Mattie) Whitaker of Rockford, Michael (Linda) Rideout of Columbus, Neb., Rogers (Diane) Rideout of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Marvin Sledge of Chicago; five daughters, Patricia (Thomas) Caldwell and Priscilla (Jerry) Marshall, both of Rockford; Willia (Sammy) Matlock and Sherry (Steve) Barnes, both of Waterloo, and Delorse Forte of Texarkana, Texas; 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Glorine Morris of Holly Springs, Ark., and Magdalene Wright, Margaret Meeks and Verla Purifoy, all of Rockford.

Preceded in death by: five brothers; five sisters; and a son-in-law.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Payne Memorial A.M.E. Church. Public visitation for two hours before services Wednesday at the church. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel is in charge of local arrangements. Additional services noon Friday at Gomez Chapel A.M.E. Church, Rockford, with visitation for an hour before services. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Machesney Park, Ill.

Memorials: may be directed to the family at 1027 Mobile St., where they will receive friends.
