WATERLOO- James David "Jimmy" Johnson, 73, of Waterloo, died at home Saturday, Jan. 30, of natural causes.

He was born July 4, 1936, in Iowa City, son of John and Helen Branstetter Johnson. He married Ruthie Nelson on March 21, 1970, in Minnesota. She died Jan. 31, 2004.

Mr. Johnson was a professional painter, an apartment manager for many years and owned and operated Jim's Auto Repair and Wrecker Service.

Survived by: his mother, Helen Carter of Evansdale; two sons, Mike and Matthew (Julie), both of Waterloo; three daughters, Helen Jo (Cory) Bradley of Waterloo and Cheryl Johnson (Marcus Miller) and Lisa (Thomas) Ridder, both of Cedar Falls; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy Carter of Evansdale; his best friend, Clifford Lindsey of Waterloo; and his dog, Betsy.

Preceded in death by: his father; his stepfather, Harvey Carter; a sister, Beverly Joan Morales; three sons, Randy, Christopher and Terry; a daughter, Charlotte Johnson; and two great-grandsons, Taylor Tovar and Cory Tovar.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to the family.

Jimmy enjoyed fishing and collected lures and fishing tackle. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was a patient at home under Iowa Hospice, and Covenant Cancer Treament Center also helped him.
