WATERLOO - Elbert Hutchins, 76, of Waterloo, died Thursday, Jan. 28, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Colquitt, Ga., son of James Allen and Savannah Bush Hutchins Sr. He married Mae West in 1960 in Waterloo, and they later divorced. He married Cynthia Martin in 1969. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Hutchins was employed by Sears Roebuck & Co. for many years, retiring in 1988. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Marines.

Survived by: a son, Elbert James of Aurora, Colo.; five daughters, Mechelle (Lloyd) Sheffie of Aurora, Lisa Hutchins of Phoenix, Shelia Wilder and Carla D. Turner, both of Waterloo, and Carol L. Turner of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Jr. (Dorothy) of Waterloo and Watson (Beverly) of Moline, Ill.; and three sisters, Malinda Burnside of Laveen, Ariz., Mary Willingham of Waterloo and Canary Hutchins of Oviedo, Fla.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Oliver and Robert; and a great-granddaughter, Cerenity Sallis.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Ambassadors for Christ Church, with cremation to follow. Public visitation from 11 a.m. until services Thursday at the church. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
