Chris Strubel, 81, lifelong resident of Black Hawk county, died at 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the home of his son, Mark L. Strubel, 1000 West Fourth street. Death was caused by complications due to a broken hip suffered by Mr. Strubel in December of last year.

Mr. Strubel was born Sept. 26, 1867, on a farm in Eagle township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Strubel. He married Emma Gill, at Eagle Center, Ia., in 1893.

The couple farmed in Eagle township for 25 years, and moved to Waterloo in 1918, where Mr. Strubel was employed by the Blough Implement Co. He later went to work for Repass Auto Co., where he was employed for 22 years. He retired about five years ago.

Mr. Strubel had made his home with his son since the death of his wife in 1940.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society.

Surviving are two sons, Paul F., Milford, Conn., and Mark, 1009 West Fourth; one brother, William, Route 4, Waterloo, and three grandchildren.

Mr. Strubel was preceded in death by his wife, one son, one daughter, three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services are tentatively set for Saturday. The body is at O'Keefe & Towne funeral home.

Members of Sacred Heart Rosary society will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday in O'Keefe & Towne funeral home to recite the rosary.
