LEESBURG, Fla. — Lynda "Lyn" K. Tierney, nee Riggs, 71, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, while vacationing in the Caribbean. She was born Dec. 26, 1938, in Austin, Minn., to Jack and Bonnie (Bailey) Cook. She was a devoted educator and spent a large portion of her career as an elementary school librarian and a middle school principal in Waterloo. Before retiring, she dedicated the last nine years of her career as an elementary school principle in Bangor, Wis. She was a former member of the Iowa State Education Association and the Waterloo Education Association. Besides a permanent residence in Florida, Lyn also had a summer home in Rochester, Minn. She enjoyed playing golf, arranging parties and having fun. Her biggest passion in life was traveling, and she had trekked across the world multiple times with people she loved before her passing.

Survivors include her significant other, Guy Henry of Fruitland Park, Fla.; daughters, Lori K. (Riggs) Krist of Manassas, Va., and Lisa K.(Riggs) Secrest of Germantown, Md.; a son, Matthew L. Lindell of Ames; stepson, Thomas Tierney of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Lyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Michael F. Tierney in 2001.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Pembroke Fairways Activity Center, 32403 Countryside Blvd. (near main entrance), Leesburg, on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jim Baldwin of Christ United Methodist, officiating.
