WASHBURN - Dorothy Mae Sass, 83, of Washburn, died Saturday, Jan. 16, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born May 22, 1926, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Andrew and Helga Nelson Iverson. She married Wilbert Harry "Lefty" Sass on May 19, 1946, in Waterloo.

She worked at Rath Packing Co. in the feed division for 28 years, retiring in 1984. She was on the board of directors for Rath Credit Union.

Survivors include: her husband of Country View care center; a son, Stewart W. of Dubuque; a foster son, James (Judi) Rhodenbaugh of Waterloo; a daughter, Diane J. (Randy) Mangrich of Gilbertville; a grandson, Dennis (Rachell) Lugg of Shell Rock; and four great-grandchildren, Kaleb Bengston and Jonathan, Isabell and Brodey Lugg.

Preceded in death by: a brother, Orville Iverson.

Family-run memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Washburn, with inurnment at Poyner Township Cemetery at a later date. Family will receive friends for a half-hour before services Wednesday at the church. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, Waterloo, assisted the family with arrangements.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society or Redeemer Lutheran Church in Washburn.
