WATERLOO - Galen V. Van Dorn, 89, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Jan. 9, at Maple Manor Village, Aplington, of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Waverly, son of Edward and Ada Fuller Van Dorn. He married Mary Reiter on Feb. 6, 1945, in Waverly.

Mr. Van Dorn served in the U.S. Army during World War ll in the South Pacific. He worked at Rath Packing Co. as a clerk for 20 years, then was head of maintenance for the Waterloo Community School System, retiring in 1982.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Gary (Shirley) of Byron Center, Mich., and Scott (Peggy) of Parkersburg; a daughter; Gayla (Tim) Steen of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Ellen Wallbaum of Canby, Ore.

Preceded in death by: five brothers, Leighton, Rex, Stuart, Romane and Lyle; and four sisters, Vesta Nicol, Vivian Roever, Ada Bloom and Estella Van Dorn.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and an hour before services Wednesday at the chapel.
