OTTUMWA - John S. Bryant, 76, of 15762 Copperhead Road, formerly of Waterloo, died at 7:15 a.m. Jan. 13, 2010, at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

He was born May 27, 1933, in Norton, Kan., to Carl and Lena Stewart Bryant. He married Rosemary Schaefer on June 28, 1965, in Eagle Center, Iowa.

A graduate of Norton High School in Norton, Kan., he served in the Navy with the SeaBees in the Philippines just following the Korean conflict.

He had been a resident of Ottumwa for the past 25 years. He sold John Deere industrial machinery for 25 years. Surviving are his wife, Rosemary; a daughter, Teresa Bryant of St. Louis, Mo.; a son, Ken (Stacie) Bryant of Eldon; two grandsons, Blaine and Cale; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Duane Bryant, and a sister, Nadine Marshall.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ottumwa with burial in Shaul Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday followed by a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to the family.
