WATERLOO - George Leland "Jerry" Leeper, 79, of Waterloo, died at his home Wednesday, Jan. 6. [2010]

He was born Aug. 25, 1930, in Waterloo, son of Leland Clark and Agnes Dillon Leeper. He married Connie Jochum on Feb. 17, 1962, in Marshalltown.

Mr. Leeper graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1948 and Iowa State Teachers College in 1952. He served two years in the U.S. Army. In 1954 he began teaching in the Waterloo Community School System. From 1971 to 1976 he was personnel director for the City of Waterloo. He returned to teaching, retiring in 1994 from West High School and Area 7.

Survived by: his wife; four sons, David (Leanne) Leeper of Cedar Rapids, Daniel (Stacy) Leeper of Gurnee, Ill., Douglas (Jamie Fisher) Leeper of Cedar Falls and Tony Fox of Kansas City, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Sean, Shelby, Dillon, Jared, Blake, Mykaela, Rachelle and Trevor; and a brother, Thomas (Arlene) of Arvada, Colo.

Family conducted memorial services: 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, followed by a time of fellowship with the family at the church. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is assisting the family.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Cedar Bend Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
