Mrs. Mitchell, 93, an Eagle Township Pioneer, Is Dead

Mrs. Adelia Cornwall Mitchell, age 93, died this morning at her home, 315 Commercial street. She is said to be the last of the group that settled in Eagle township in the decade before the Civil war.

Mrs. Mitchell was born in Castlerea, County Roscommmon, Ireland, June 22, 1828. At the age of 20 years she came to America and lived for a short time in New Orleans. Later she moved to St. Louis where on Feb. 8, 1852, she was married to Thomas O'Regan. About a year later they moved to Davenport.

In 1856, Mr. and Mrs. O'Regan with their two children moved to Black Hawk county. Mr. O'Regan's health soon succumbed to the pioneer hardships of that period and he died Oct. 6 of the same year. Later Mrs. O'Regan was married to Michael Mitchell. They were the first couple married in Eagle township. They lived on the farm in Eagle Center until 1892, when the family moved to Waterloo. Mr. Mitchell died in 1894.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by one sister, Mrs. LaVelle, Sioux City, Ia.; two sons, W. H. Mitchell and S. A. Mitchell; three daughters, Mrs. Mary A. Mullaney, Sister M. Hilary, B. V. M., and Miss Kate Mitchell. The sons and three daughters all live in Waterloo. One son, John Mitchell, and one daughter, Eliza Mitchell, preceded their mother in death. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Catholic church.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 9 a.m. in Sacred Heart church. Burial will be in Mount Carmel cemeery, Eagle Center.

Relatives have requested that no flowers be sent.
