Anita Effie Roach, 84, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.

Born Oct. 11, 1925, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ralph and Effie M. Hanson Brueck. She married John "Jack" T. Roach on June 25, 1949, at St. John's Catholic Church.

Mrs. Roach was a 1942 graduate of St. Paul's High School, Burlington. She then attended St. Francis School of Nursing, Peoria, Ill., and graduated in 1946 as a registered nurse. She was the supervisor of the surgical floor at Mercy Hospital, Burlington, in 1946.

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Burlington, until her marriage, then joined St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Burlington, where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society, and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of Isabella and the parish council. After the death of her husband, she moved to Waterloo to be near her daughter. She resumed her membership to St. John's Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary of Waterloo, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents, Ralph and Effie; and two brothers, Lloyd (Stephanie) and John (Phyllis).

A rosary will be held in Prugh's Chapel, Burlington, on Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 7 until 9 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Roach will be held at 10:30 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church, Burlington, on Tuesday, Dec. 29, with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Burlington.

A memorial has been established for the stained glass windows at St. John's Catholic Church and Cedar Bend Humane Society, Waterloo.
