WATERLOO — Harvey E. Mowery Sr., 90, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, at ManorCare Health Services of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 4, 1918, in Sherburn, Minn., son of Clarence and Myrtle Jose Mowery. He married Velma “Shorty” Bales on March 21, 1943, in Lebanon, Mo. She died Feb. 5, 2005.

Mr. Mowery was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had farmed and later became a supervisor in construction, retiring from John G. Miller Construction Co.

Survived by: two sons, Ed Jr. (Carol) of Cedar Falls and Bill (Terri) of Waterloo; a daughter, Vicki (Carl) Metcalf of Memphis, Tenn.; a grandson, Michael Mowery; and a sister, Peggy (Guy) Johnson of Boone.

Preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers, Hugh in infancy, Lewis and Robert; and three sisters, Irene Grabenhour, Minerva Powers and Hazel Dawson.

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Burton Avenue Baptist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.

Harvey enjoyed fishing, making candy and he liked to cook. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
