WATERLOO - Dave E. Greer, 74, of 127 Newell St., died Thursday, Nov. 5, at Allen Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Sept. 21, 1935, in Sallis, Miss., son of George and Annie Glee Bentley Greer. He married Mary Ella Matlock on July 28, 1962, in Waterloo. She died Oct. 2, 2001.

Mr. Greer was employed at John Deere foundry for 28 years until retiring Dec. 22, 1994, and was owner of Greer Funeral Home, which he founded in 1990.

He was a member of St. Lukes Pentacostal Church for more than 40 years.

Survived by: three sons, Gordon (Janay) Greer, Nathan Jr. Matlock and Willie James Matlock, all of Waterloo; 20 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bishop George Jr. (Sarah Lee), Percy Lee (Catherine) and David Lee (Katherine Landfair), all of Waterloo; four sisters, Mary Lee (Jessie Lee) Nash of Waterloo, and Minnie Pearl (Lee Harvey) Harmon, the Rev. Catherine Lou (Richard Ed) Weatherby and Betty Jo (John Wesley) Weatherby, all of Sallis; a brother-in-law, Peter (Lou) Matlock of Waterloo; two sisters-in-law, Alice/A.D. Peggees and Evelyn Galloway, both of Waterloo; and several in-laws of the Matlock family.

Preceded in death by: a son, Willie Charles Johnson; a brother, Mose Junior Greer; a sister, Annie Viola Greer; and a stepsister, Annie Pearl Triplett.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Lukes Pentacostal Church, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the family in care of Greer Funeral Home, 710 Logan Ave., Waterloo 50703.

He loved gardening and tilling dozens of gardens for friends every spring. Mr. Greer's loyal staff also grieves his passing.

His brother, David, and nephew, Darren, will continue the funeral service.
