GILBERTVILLE - Rosella Anna "Sally" Schmit, 94, of Gilbertville, died Friday, Oct. 30, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, following a short illness.

She was born April 6, 1915, in Black Hawk County, daughter of Nicholas Fischels and Barbara Bovy Fischels. On Feb. 1, 1939, she married John Robert "Chub" Schmit at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville. He preceded her in death Dec. 15, 1982.

She worked 20 years as hot lunch cook for Immaculate Conception School, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the parish rosary society and Catholic Order of Foresters, all in Gilbertville.

Survived by: three daughters, Patricia (Richard) Becker of Jesup, Constance (Richard) Keegan of LaPorte City and Linda (Nicholas) Purdy of Waterloo; two sons, Kenneth (Carolyn) of Waterloo and Larry (Linda) of Jesup; 21 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth (Wilma) Fischels of Jesup; and two sisters-in-law, Winifred Fischels and Bernadette Fischels, both of Gilbertville.

Preceded in death by: her husband; her parents; a great-grandson, James Keegan; and six brothers, Joe, Leo, Bill, Ray, Roman and Nick Fischels.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, both in Gilbertville. Public visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a 4 p.m. parish rosary and a 7 p.m. Catholic Order of Foresters rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Immaculate Conception Church and the Bosco System, both in Gilbertville.
