Charles “Cecil” Fretwell, 73, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Cedar Falls Health Care Center in Cedar Falls, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born June 20, 1936 on the family farm near Williamstown, Missouri, the son of Roby Ellery and Adeline (Ham) Fretwell. Cecil married Shela S. Smith on December 20, 1959 in West Union, Iowa. He was a graduate of Keokuk Senior High School, the University of Iowa and the University of Illinois. Cecil served in the US Army Corps of Engineers in 1960 and was a reservist for twelve years. He was a systems analyst with John Deere & Company in Waterloo for twenty-two years, retiring in 1998. Cecil was a member of Pi Tau Sigma, Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi.

Survivors include his wife, Shela Fretwell, of Cedar Falls, two daughters, Christine L. Diesch of Novato, California and Lorraine M. (Larry) Dunagan of Waverly, Iowa, and two grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Diesch of Santa Cruz, California and Jess Dunagan of Waverly.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents.

Private graveside services will be at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery near Williamstown, Missouri. Memorials may be directed to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Ave., Miami, FL 33136-1494.
